Project Beta

I decided to make @thesydneyvintage to address the lack of historical Instagram accounts based in Sydney. I have created my posts through taking pictures of historically significant sites across the city in order to produce content that is interesting and relevant to my followers/users through identifying the purpose of each building and its architectural style. The account has grown since it first launched and is followed by other historical Instagram accounts from Australia (such as the @historical_melbourne).

In order to improve the page and learn what followers prefer to see come from my DA I have asked Twitter for feedback and ideas I could utilise to improve the digital artefact. I initially created the page and tested it among Instagram users through sharing it to Twitter and my classmates- which also allowed people to see my DA and follow its progress. I was then able to get feedback easily through polls and questions on Twitter. Feedback provided to me suggested a few great ideas to enhance the account through means of expanding on information and historical backgrounds and playing around with a few different camera settings.

Through the module of ‘prototyping’ I had also thought of a few ideas I could use to expand the page. One of which was to write and post about historical people as well as buildings, I tested this idea on twitter through the form of a 2 option poll and the majority of voters had selected the option to expand into posting about historical figures. I had recently posted about a Australian Industrialist of the 19th century, however the post was not as popular as I had hoped, this may suggest that my follows are more interested in seeing more visual content, rather than reading text.

Furthermore in regards to reflecting, through feedback and thoughts from users on twitter and Instagram I was able to improve the content I am posting, satisfying user needs and suggestions. I am currently happy with the DA in its current status as it demonstrates what I originally intended to create.
