Future Cultures: Innovation & The Digital Frontier

Analyzing the trajectory of technology, work, and society.

This section explores “Future Studies”—a discipline focused on examining the cultural, technological, and economic forces shaping our world. My research here bridges the gap between science fiction and strategic foresight, investigating how emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation are redefining the human experience.

Key research themes include:

  • The Future of Work (2040–2050): A strategic analysis of employment patterns, the gig economy, and the global shifts driven by AI and machine learning.
  • Technological Ethics & Identity: Using cyberpunk narratives (such as The Matrix and Ghost in the Shell) as a lens to explore modern anxieties regarding data privacy, brain-computer interfaces, and the blurring of reality.
  • Human-Machine Interaction: Examining the evolution of humanity through cinematic reflections like 2001: A Space Odyssey and Her, focusing on the emotional and social implications of advanced AI.

By studying these “future cultures,” I develop the ability to anticipate market trends, understand digital disruption, and prepare for the communication challenges of the next decade.

Exploring Humanity in 2001: A Space Odyssey and Her

This BCM325 post will be a personal reflection on what I found most fascinating about these films, the similar themes and ideas they both explored as well as my experience on live posting on discord with my classmates.  2001: a Space Odyssey (1968) directed by Stanley Kubrick, depicts an advanced future where humanity has ventured into space…
